Background Information

Valencia Airport started in 1927 as a priority for the coastal city, and a seaport was soon built to accommodate the large amount of seaplanes that arrived. The airport opened for commercial flights in 1934, and two paved runways were built the decade after. A passenger terminal was built in the 70's and was redesigned in the 80's, and was innovative for the time as it utilized solar power to run most of its operations. In 2007, a regional terminal was added onto the side of the main terminal and expanded further in the middle of 2012.

The main terminal handles passengers to many international destinations, mainly centered in Europe. There is also a VIP lounge and a number of other services with which to shop and dine. Nearly 60,000 aircraft movements are made each year, but general aviation is an important part of airport traffic in Valencia, with agricultural maneuvers and air operation being particularly crucial to the local area.
