General Information

With a population of over 1.3 million people, Milan is the second largest in Italy and has a history dating back as far as Rome. Sforza Castle was built in the 15th century and was at one point the largest citadel in Europe.Nowadays, it houses seven small museums. The Pinacoteca houses collections of art by artists such as Canaletto and Tiepolo. There are also museums on ancient art, on musical instruments, an Egyptian museum, and the Archaeological Museum of Milan as well as museums dedicated to applied arts and antique furniture.

The Pinacoteca Di Brera Art Museum covers works by major Italian artists from the 13th century to the 20th century, features some of the most famous masterpieces on show, such as The Kiss by Francesco Hayez, The Lamentation of Christ by Andrea Mantegna and Giovanni Bellini's Dead Christ painting. As well as paintings there are plaster casts, sculptures and drawings.

Sport
