The town is found on rivers Ystwyth and the Rheidol and on the western coast. It is a very secluded town, although there are towns nearby known of a large population number. The town has often been referred to as the true capital of Wales due to it being the heart of Welsh nationalism and the Welsh language movement as well as being the home of institutions such as the National Library of Wales and the University of Wales. Since it has a university within the city limits, the town has a large population, which means there are over 50 pubs in Aberystwyth!

Sights

The Town and Pier is where you can go to park your car up and take a stroll through the lovely small streets You can either do some shopping in one of the many small independent and quirky shops, take a walk to the pier, or sit and enjoy a drink whilst gazing out into the sea, a perfect spot to see a sunset or sunrise.

Take a walk through the country and hills surrounding the town. Climb up the cliffs you can get a stunning view of the seaside town. On a walk one will stumble upon the ruins of the old Aberystwyth castle, bring some food and on a nice day enjoy a picnic on the site.

Vale of Rheidol Railway is a seven mile railway running between Aberystwyth and small village of Devil's Bridge. Opened in 1902 the railway has been constantly active for over 100 years. The route has a number of stops. The village of Devil's Bridge itself is also a major attraction. The story of the devil's bridge is that it proved too difficult for mortals to construct the devil agreed to build the bridge in return for the life of the first living thing to cross it. The devil was tricked by an old lady when she threw food on the bridge which the dog chased and so it was the dog’s life that was taken.

Ceredigion Museum is one of the only museums in the town. Its main focus is the history of the county of Ceredigion showcasing old Welsh costumes, a collection of taxidermy, and other artefacts.
