Background Information

The birth of Montreal Airport dates back to the early 1940's, beginning life as Montreal-Dorval Airport. By 1946, the airport was handling more than 250,000 passengers and grew to over 1 million in the 1950's. In the 1960's with the opening of a new terminal, the airport became the largest in Canada and became the gateway to Canada for all European traffic. In 1986, the airport was merged with another regional airport nearby and became a true aviation hub.

The terminal has three separate zones for passengers: a domestic zone for flights within Canada, a transborder zone for flights into the US, and an international zone for flights around the world. Around the terminal are various hotels, eateries and shopping options that befit the status of an international hub, along with several lounges for business travelers or anybody who wants to get away from the bustle of the airport.
