Background information

Norwich Airport was originally founded in 1940 as an RAF bomber station, and stayed as a front-line RAF station for many years. Much of the old hangars were renovated into terminals or housing blocks, and while many runways still exist only one is used for commercial purposes. In 2004, the airport was acquired by Omniport, and the airport quickly became one of the UK hubs for budget carrier Flybe. In 2007, the airport introduced its Airport Development Fee, and all passengers departing from the airport pay a fee of £10.

The facilities at Norwich Airport are much what you would expect from a small regional airport, with plenty of business facilities, free WiFi and restaurants to pass the time, and a large amount of parking around the airport. The airport area also has a day nursery for particularly long stopovers.

Excursions

Norwich Airport is very close to the two-cathedral city of Norwich, a relaxed city with a long history and culture. Road networks in the area are excellent, and a Norwich Airport car rental can serve you well. Trips to the seaside are an easy drive, and the Norfolk Broads are an attractive destination to observe wildlife. The links to other well-known cities are also very good, and trips to places like Cambridge and even London are very possible. The excellent location of the airport means that you can immediately take advantage of the primary road network with a car rental Norwich Airport and on to all of the UK’s major cities, with a speed, convenience and personal freedom that public transportation just can’t beat.
