Inside Dresden Airport

In 1935, commercial airplanes first started taking off and landing at the newly opened Dresden Airport. Since then, a multitude of social, economic and technological changes have impacted on the growth of the airport. Between 1955 and 1961, Dresden transformed into the center of aircraft engineering in the former East Germany. This gives the airport a unique history which has had a huge influence on the design and ambiance of the airport. Opened in 2001, the Dresden Airport terminal was built from a hangar formerly used as an assembly hall by the East German aircraft industry, making it a visible expression of its relationship with its own past. The airport, apart from the usual services and amenities, offers a casino, petrol station, massages, and charging stations for electronic cars. Visitors also have 30 minutes of free access to the airports WiFi network.
