Manila International Airport was and remains a military base; first established in the 1930's by the United States government, it has steadily grown over the years into one of Asia’s most important transportation hubs. In 1948, the airport began servicing small commercial flights, and did not take off until 1981, when the first Terminal was opened for operation. Terminal 1 handles all international flights with non-Philippines airlines, Terminal 2 services only Philippines Airlines flights, and Terminal 3 handles all types of international flights.
